This post is a proper thank you to all the people that helped put me on the stage I shared on Monday evening at the British Book Awards 2025. It's a long list but have a look, you may be on it! If I can clap enthusiastically for over 2 hours of nominees, I hope you can read a few minutes of text and honour lots of hard-working people with the same attention that I was briefly awarded.
O2: Twanging Around
The sound of the curiously named ‘Jew’s Harp’, or Jaw Harp, first reached my ears via the classic spaghetti western soundtracks of Ennio Moricone. Below you can hear a soundscape and a simulated conversation in ‘Harpish’, all created from this unassuming little instrument. Or you can watch some TRULY creative people take twanging to the next level in the linked videos.
O1: A Welcome Introduction
So you’ve found The Overlap! This part of the site is where you can see my interests in sound and vision come together. It houses some of my personal projects, explorations and thoughts around themes of language and communication more broadly. From calligraphy to soundscapes, who knows where we’ll end up!
